Confusion, fear, financial problems, lack of trust, mental health issues – All of these are just part of the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic that has swept the world. It has turned our world upside down and we were all so unprepared. So where does that leave us in terms of career choices and study pathways. If nothing else this has made us all sit up and realise that although we cannot predict such major trauma we do know that we must become resilient to change. We need to sit back and tack a good look at a) where are the opportunities now and b) where should be be aiming in terms of study towards transitioning and even looking at emerging career options.
Certainly one thing is for sure and that is that we know how important technology is and with that cyber security. Keeping information safe. We also need to focus on our communication skills because we will be having to work harder to encourage our clients to buy product and or service from us through social media as we simply cannot take risks meeting face to face. We need to work harder and smarter. The other area of course are all the fields relating to psychology where we know already that people are struggling with loss, grief, isolation and basically control of their own lives.
The use of technology to assist individuals with their trauma relating to the pandemic as well as trying to build a life again, will result in more work out there for individuals working in psychology, counselling, community services, mental health and youth work. Therefore if this area interests you now would be a good opportunity to work on either further study or how you could develop your skills to move into this field.
The good news is that now is the opportunity to make opportunities for yourself. If you have any new ideas emerging around technology or social science, now is the time to act! Do your research and develop new business ideas. It is also a time to look at further study that might help enhance what you currently do.
Job opportunities at the moment for a quick decision could be any of the following fields:-
This is the time to do some thinking and work on a study/career pathway in readiness for when COVID-19 is no more and we can get on with life. We can also in the short term find work in many other fields.
Be safe and patient but dont just sit back – start researching and start planning now and for your future.
